Your operating system has three pieces that work together inside a single Claude Project:
| Piece | What it is | Where it goes in Claude |
|---|---|---|
| 📋 Project Instructions | The master instruction file. It tells Claude what kind of practice you run, how to use the skills, and how to talk to you. This is the brain of your operating system. | Paste into Project Instructions (in project settings — not the chat window) |
| 📂 Skill files | Individual workflow files — one per task (session prep, proposals, capacity planning, QBRs, etc.). These give Claude the step-by-step playbook for each thing your practice does. | Upload to the Project Knowledge section as .md files |
| 💬 Practice intake | After setup, Claude walks you through a five-minute intake — your firm, services, clients, pricing, team, and tools. This personalizes everything to your practice. | Happens automatically in your first conversation |
<aside> ⚠️
The order matters. Project Instructions go in first. They tell Claude how to read and use the skill files. If you upload skills without the instructions, Claude won't know what to do with them.

Go to claude.ai and log in. In the left sidebar, find Projects and create a new project. Name it something you'll recognize — "Practice Operations" or "[Your Firm] Ops."
Scroll to your practice type below — Consulting or CPA / Accounting — and open the Project Instructions page for that practice. Copy the full contents, then:

What are Project Instructions? They're the permanent instructions Claude reads before every conversation in your project. Think of them as the operating manual you hand a new team member on day one — "here's who we are, here's how we work, here's what we do." Whether you run a consulting firm or an accounting practice, Claude reads these silently every time you start a new chat and adapts to your specific work.

The skills listed under your practice type below power your operating system. Open each one from your Claude Skills for Independent Consultants, copy the content, and upload to your project's Project Knowledge section as a file.

Uploading skills: Open each skill page, select all the content, copy it, and paste into a plain text file saved as skill-name.md. Then upload all your .md files to your Claude Project at once. Or use Notion's Export feature (... menu → Export → Markdown) on each skill page to download it directly.
